Finsbury Park attack: Van knock down pedestrian near mosque in London, man arrested - Video/photos

One person has been killed, and atleast 10 injured, when a van drove into pedestrians near Finsbury Park Mosque, north London, shortly after they finished Ramadan prayers, known as taraweeh. in the early hours of Monday morning.

A man, 48, who is said to be the driver has been arrested after the van which was hired from south Wales, mounted the pavement and change direction suddenly into a congregation.

A London Mayor Sadiq Khan, who described the collision as a "horrific terrorist attack" in a statement told CNN: "We don't yet know the full details, but this was clearly a deliberate attack on innocent Londoners, many of whom were finishing prayers during the holy month of Ramadan," Khan said.

Khan said Metropolitan Police are deploying extra officers to "reassure communities, especially those observing Ramadan."

"My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected. I am grateful to our emergency services, who responded quickly and have been working on the scene throughout the night," he said.
