World Blood Donor Day: Expert urged Nigerians to donate blood often

Tolulope Kotey, a Community Health Physician has urged Nigerians to voluntarily donate blood as part of efforts to better position the health sector to respond to emergencies.

Kotey, who spoke with TVC News on Wednesday, said that it is imperative to ensure a continuous supply and availability of blood at blood banks in the country, and also urged health authorities to sensitise Nigerians that blood donation has little or no effect on the general well-being of donors.

She emphasised that blood should be donated as often as possible instead of waiting for a disaster to strike before giving blood.

"Give Blood, Give Now, Give Often," is the theme for this year’s "World Blood Donor Day," held on the 14th of June every year to draw attention to the importance of donating blood.
